Allspice in boots!
In the 19th century, Russian soldiers would put allspice in their boots to keep their feet warm. It also helped with stinky feet! Allspice oil is used today in the cosmetic industry for men's toiletries.

Flour from Bananas
Flour is made by grinding and sifting grains (or other foodstuffs), especially wheat. Other foodstuffs that are used to make flour are potatoes, acorns, mesquite and bananas.

Salty Sailing Fish
Salt preserves foods. It dehydrates bacterial cells and reduces spoilage. Salting fish made long-range explorations possible in the age of sailing ships.

Take Your Sugar
Up until the 1500s, sugar was so expensive that is was used in small amounts as medicine and to sweeten wine, but not in food.

Milk Fun Facts
It takes about 350 squirts for each gallon of milk from a cow. Milk is the official state beverage of North Carolina, North Dakota, New York and Oklahoma.

Hi, I'm Augie. My real name is August. Nope, I wasn't born in August (I knew you were going to ask that). I was born in May — go figure.

I am part German, part Scandinavian and part American Indian. I am very proud of my Indian heritage. My dad was part Indian. I have blonde hair and hazel eyes, so I don't look like an Indian, but I am one.

I love to play baseball. Catcher is my favorite position. I really like talking to the batters while they're trying to hit the ball. It's fun to distract them.

I spend lots of time playing video games. Lego Star Wars and Naruto Clash of Ninja 2 are a couple of my favorites. I also like to cook. I am working on a recipe that's not quite over the top, but my mom says it's close. It's a muffin-cake that's made with granola, caramel and chocolate dust (I chop chocolate chips into dust ... it's pretty fun).

Things I hate are bad guys, cheaters and math.

When I grow up I hope to be a professional wrestler, a baseball player or a super hero..or maybe a wrestling super hero baseball player fireman. I haven't decided yet. I want to go to either Georgia Tech and play on their baseball team or go to the University of Florida. GO GATORS!!!! I'm in 5th grade and don't like it much. I am a good student, though.
